I installed a new version of SO on my new server last evening. My host installed Image Magick for me too.
When I try a test thumbnail it takes forever and then I get this:
Query to MySQL Failed: MySQL server has gone away
Works perfect with GD Library, but I really would like Image Magick.
I don't have this problem on my other servers, so I'm not sure.

hi there,
are exec() functions enabled in you php configuration?
I think i have seen such a problem in the past when exec() functions in php were blacklisted..

yeah, ask them to make sure exec() functions are available in php..
