Just make the galleries format the way you want. For example if you want the description as alt. You might try like this: <a href="%%URL%%" target="_blank"><img src="%%THUMB%%" alt="%%DESCRIPTION%%"></a> since for the submitted galleries i think SO has no support for ALT text yet, so you can put the description in the ALT tag. The rest samples you gave should again work, just try them out in a test template..
