I've read through all the documentation for GS and I can find only very basic information on what the script can actually do in terms of layout for gallery scraped posts....
In particular I am interested in how to create a layout for long descriptions so i can set font size, colour, font type etc so through using long descriptions I can differentiate my blogs and make them look more substancial...
Could you post a list of script commands that could be used for this?

hi there, well its all up to your html/css skills, nothing complicated or nothing hidden. Just create your template in the way you want it, and where the content should be output you put the script variables.
For example to finetune the long description text do like:

<div style="font: 16px arial #000000;font-weight:normal">
{GAL_LDESCR}
</div>
|
and etc... just regular html/css is the whole template so you do it as you design your regular pages..
